ABOUT THE CHEF
– ALI ASSAF
Chef Ali Assaf was born in the historic and culturally rich city of Baalbek, Lebanon. Raised in a lively household where he was surrounded by authentic Lebanese cuisine, Chef Ali credits his grandmother and mother as vital early influences for his passion and pursuit of culinary excellence.
Choosing to develop his skills and gain practical experience, he interned with Ramada Lebanon that instilled in him the confidence of better understanding and foundational culinary skills. Following this tenure, he met his mentor and inspiration, culinary giant and Michelin-starred Chef Greg Malouf. Chef Ali’s passion and expertise grew under the discerning eye of Chef Malouf and landed him in Dubai, where a collaboration between the duo blossomed –– Bushra by Buddha-Bar in Grosvenor House.
In pursuit of greater achievements, Chef Ali accepted the offer to helm UMMI in Singapore in 2023, where he currently leads the team to serve Singapore’s most authentic and elevated Lebanese cuisine.
